Happy Belated Founder's Day!

Labor day often co insides with the other wonderful holiday all true Wellsvillians celebrate...Founder's Day. This special day starts at 4 in the morning (yes you read that right 4 AM!!!) with our dear little old neighbor Lowel riding around in the back of his truck with a real cannon that he shoots off throughout the town! It is so loud it truly shakes the house! And if you ever complain about the racket Lowel takes notes and makes sure to shoot it off in your driveway the following year! Needless to say we keep our mouths shut. :) But, I digress, Founder's Day this year started out at a balmy 33 degrees and only warmed up into the low 60s. So we suited Parks up in his sweats and hoodie and took a quick pic before heading on down to the town square for the Fireman's breakfast at 7:00am! Here we are after a yummy hot breakfast getting ready for the rest of the day's festivities! Parker's dear friend Sandy has a booth every year at Founder's Day. She sells cotton candy and other sweet treats, but none as sweet as the little treat she is holding in this pic! ;)

After the breakfast there is a parade complete with high school bands, ponies, and old cars with even older people in them. (Literally they have the Wellsville's longest living citizen riding around in an old Model -T)
Parker borrowed Skyler's hat so his little Wee head wouldn't get burned!
Had to get a picture with Parker's favorite buddy SKYLER! Who now out weighs him by at least a pound or two! :)
And the best part of the parade....yep the Indians. I would never have believed that something so politically incorrect still occurs in modern America, but then again I do live in Wellsville. :) 20 or 30 drunk guys without their shirts on and usually a squaw or 2 from around town paint themselves like Native Americans and go riding in the parade shooting off blanks in preparation for the SHAM BATTLE that follows immediately after. What is the Sham Battle you may ask....well it is just Wellsville's little rendition of when the settlers first arrived how they would practice rounding up the wagons to protect themselves from those they considered savages. They would pretend that a little settler girl had been kidnapped and then go after her. This little drama is recreated every year in the field behind the elementary school complete with brought in sagebrush for ambiance and a little wooden port-a-potty that they burn for effect. It is quite a spectacle and it tends to leave me, and I dare say most rational people, shaking our heads.
Yea Founder's Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, you definitely have the small community approach to activities. Wouldn't want to try this in Atlanta, New York, or LA. Parker seems to squint in the sun so maybe he needs Florida sun shades as any cool kid does.Should we send him a pair for the bright light in Utah?
Much love,
